UK City of Culture writing competition

The Express and Star is offering schools the opportunity to write, illustrate and design the front and back cover of special edition of the newspaper and to see their work roll off the presses.

The competition, which is open to pupils in Birmingham and the wider region, will form part of Birmingham?s bid for the title of UK City of Culture 2013.

Groups of school pupils aged 11 to 16 are invited to write, illustrate and design the front and back page of a special City of Culture 2013 edition of the Express and Star. Winners will be invited to the Express and Star to meet journalists and to see their newspaper run off the presses.

How to enter:
Entries must be submitted electronically saved as a pdf and the finished measurement for each page is 31 cm wide by 35 cm deep. Final artwork is required with finished stories and photographs laid out and ready to print.

The judges? decision is final. The winners will be notified and invited to visit the Express and Star during the week of 24 May to see their newspaper being printed. Winners will be required to participate in publicity opportunities.

Closing date for entries is Friday 14th May.
