Eastside Projects

Launch: 6-9pm Friday 7 May 2010
Exhibition: 8 May-12 June 2010

?By melting our individual cores we will achieve a massive release of beautiful energy.? (hobbypopMUSEUM)

Eastside Projects proudly presents a new solo exhibition by hobbypopMUSEUM, a Düsseldorf/London-based artist group, formed by Sophie von Hellermann, Christian Jendreiko, Matthias Lahme, Dietmar Lutz, André Niebur and Marie-Céline Schäfer.

Since they formed as a group in Düsseldorf in 1988, hobbypopMUSEUM have created site-specific installations, fusing painting with sound, performance and film.

For two weeks prior to the exhibition opening, all six members of the group will be making new work within the gallery. This new commission is part of a journey, following on from recent gatherings in San Francisco and Enschede, Holland. The group travels, meets up, disperses and reconvenes for exhibitions all over the world. They leave behind a thread of narrative through their exhibition titles and slogans.

hobbypopMUSEUM?s hometown of Düsseldorf is coloured by significant events in art history, from the academy where Beuys once preached his message of ?art as life as myth?, to the city which nurtured the masters of post-war German painting, Polke and Richter. A generation later, hobbypopMUSEUM play with this legacy of divergent narratives, creating magnificent and elusive paintings, which are simultaneously self-aware and self-abnegating.
