"For two months, we worked with groups in both Kerria Court, a home which cares for clients with dementia and others, and Sifa Fireside which is a drop-in centre for the homeless. This was our first project with both groups and having been invited back we will return in the new year to continue the project. We are also working with other Birmingham City Council and Arts Council England cultural providers to offer their activities in the centre."

Birmingham Opera Company is Arts Champion for the Ladywood Constituency and works with Birmingham City Council to get more people involved in a wide range of arts activities in the neighbourhood and beyond.

Ladywood is a challenging area with some of the poorest communities in the UK. Unemployment among young people is the amongst the highest in the UK now at 24%. The Birmingham Opera Company have been focusing their work on engaging young people from 16-25 in their new projects and working at street level with local youth workers to contact young people and share their expertise for them to use in their own creative world - DJing, street dance, poetry.
