Arts & Culture Summit 2012 Speakers Announced

The arrangements for the Summit are now well underway and it is looking very exciting, so don’t miss your place – book today!  We have secured some very special speakers, including:                                                                    

Thursday 18 October

• Ruth MacKenzie will be speaking about Birmingham’s cultural opportunities

We are very pleased to announce that we have secured three international speakers: Julie Burros, who is the Director of Cultural Planning from the City of Chicago, Xavier Fourneyron, Directeur général adjoint en charge de la Culture, City of Lyon and Reinier Weers from Rotterdam, the Festival and Event City of the World.

• Jim Hollington, Director of British Council Arts group will also give his views about opportunities for Birmingham to promote its cultural assets overseas

• Paul Kaynes will present a seminar during the lunch break on the Impact of Cultural Olympiad in Birmingham                                                                                                                                                                                             

Friday 19 October

Graham Vick from Birmingham Opera Company, internationally renowned opera director, will speak about a new model for opera

Darren Henley, Chief Executive of Classic FM and the force behind the government’s Henley Review of cultural education will explain how this work links to efforts to develop creativity and innovation skills in our young people

• Pauline Law, Executive Producer, Arts Commissioning and Series Producer of The Culture Show at the BBC will give her perspective on the needs of the sector

• Andy Philips from the Regional Observatory will provide an optional lunch time seminar on the creative City research

• John Holden, City of London University and Associate at Demos, will tell us how to Negotiate the New Arts Landscape

• We have also commissioned an Arts & Culture Summit Poem by local Poet Matt Windle who was Birmingham’s Young Poet Laureate (2007-8) and is also a Birmingham Champion Boxer!
